Bedroom Rehabilation

Somehow this last week/weekend, I was able to manage the energy to repaint/rehab my bedroom. I had been sleeping with the same white walls for the last four years. It wasn’t working for me anymore. The bedroom is still in progress but I was able to make it habitable this last weekend.

You can see on the right-hand side, the paint colors I was contemplating. I used Glidden colors. No particular reason, I just like the colors. Plus, they had great little paint sample bottles that you could buy for a couple of dollars each. So which one do you like? Here, I will give you a better view.

This is a view of the three colors at night. I also reviewed them in the morning. And I also put them on all four walls. I became partial to the lighter two colors. I also needed a lighter color because the bedroom is small and gets a large amount of sunlight.

The prep work of course took forever. I hate painting BUT it is the best thing to make a room look like new. So you want to know what the winning color was? Here it is…

I don’t have a headboard so I substituted a peacock mirror and a shelf unit as the pseudo headboard.

And I don’t have normal nightstands. So I bought matching foldable tables at Ross. Then I bought sheets of plastic polycarbonate at Home Depot and cut them down to size to fit on top.

I moved two matching lamps from the living room into the bedroom for symmetry. And I think it turned out pretty good. What do you think?

There are still some other projects that I would like to finish in this room. But I think I made a pretty good start. It makes me want to take a nap…or go have a Creamsicle Cocktail;)

One Word Movie Review

I like movies. Okay, let me restate that, I LOVE MOVIES!! I try to watch at least three a week. And I have decided that I am going to try to express my opinion on these three movies in one word.

Up In The Air – Ironic

2012 – Obnoxious

Where The Wild Things Are – Dirty

Any movies you’ve seen lately?  Think you could give the one word movie review a try?

Creamsicle: The Cocktail

Well, Spring is officially here. And for California, we know it by the abundance of oranges growing all over the dang place. Spend the whole time trying to figure out different ways to use the darn things. And for all the adults out there I thought I would find a unique way to celebrate this gorgeous fruit. Reliving being a kid while enjoying the benefit of being an adult at the same time. So here it is…the Creamsicle (50/50 Bar) Cocktail.

Ingredients:

  • 3 parts Vanilla Vodka
  • 1 part Cointreau
  • 3 parts orange juice

So I will explain “parts” in the recipe. So whatever form of measurement you use (shot glass, thimble cover of shaker, cup, metal bucket, etc.), the ratio will be 3:1:3. I use the thimble cover of my cocktail shaker, so I fill it three times with Vanilla Vodka and pour into cocktail shaker. Fill thimble 1 time with Cointreau. If necessary, you could use Triple Sec (bleh, bleh, bleh), but I highly advise Cointreau. Then fill thimble three times  with orange juice. Now, add a ton of ice to the shaker, seal it tight and shake away. Pour into pretty cocktail glass. Do a little happy dance. And add in any special signature moves that you may have created. What?!! You don’t have your own signature dance moves? Well, work on it. And no, I am not showing you mine.

Back to the important stuff. The Creamsicle Cocktail. Enjoy this lovely little present of orange and vanilla goodness.

Lynne with an Experiment: Partie Deux

What are these? A question I first posed to myself three weeks ago when I opened my recently purchased ballet shoes and out slithered these two pieces of elastic.

I spent the first week after the purchase, trying to find little holes or snaps that these ribbons needed to be attached. No luck. What were these things? If they were supposed to go on my shoes, shouldn’t there be directions? As if all the positions having French names wasn’t enough, these two elastic beige strings were confounding me. All other sports did not require a rudimentary knowledge of a second language. And this may sound futuristic, but the tennis shoes actually have holes for the laces. I know, now I am talking crazy talk!

Well thank you to the power of the Internet and no thanks to the Capezio marketing department (whoever handles packaging should really be whipped using these small elastic strings), I had a major discovery! These two little straps – I am supposed to sew them on to the shoe across the top so the shoe will stay on. I was wondering how I could have avoided that whole debacle during the back kicks.

Other than my massive epiphany involving the beige straps, I also have the following observations:

  • I have a bruise on the top of my ankle. (Hey, I am reporting here!)
  •  Tights are a necessity when wearing ballet shoes. (Sweat. Yeah, I said it. Even though I don’t think DKNY had this in mind when designing tights.)
  • Practice doesn’t make perfect but you recover faster.
  • Tall, short, overweight or thin, as with everything ballet is all about how you carry yourself. And just like everything else, if you love it, you can definitely see it.

No longer strapless,

Lynne with an E

Rivalry

I have a cat. A cat that has an evil stare.

I remember the days when the cat and the dog were like this –

Now they are like this –

And this –

Oh you can’t see it? Let me point it out to you…

The fluffy tail is hard to resist.

St. Louis – This is the Midwest.

A View from My Room

To tell you the truth, because that is what I am all about on this blog – my last visit to St. Louis wasn’t the greatest. It was about eight years ago and I swear I was hearing gunshots while in my hotel room. And the hotel didn’t give me great hope – I figured that if I cut away part of the rug, I would happen upon a chalk outline…or two, or three.

But, I was going for work and cities change right? Well in the case of St. Louis, it is still pretty quiet. But definitely a nicer hotel and an overall better experience. And I think part of it is the location of St. Louis. Now, to all my midwest friends, this may be considered the norm to you. Strangers greeting you and saying hello on the street. I think hospitality was perfected in the midwest. But that is my personal opinion.

So I stayed at the Hampton Inn by the Arch. Nice, clean hotel that has been recently updated. And…breakfast is included in the price:) Plus, the photo of the arch above? Yeah, that was from my hotel room. Pretty nice, eh? So I just give you some highlights of my trip and places you may want to check out.

Buggy Ride in St. Louis

On Thursday night, I was able to take a horse-drawn carriage ride to dinner. Charlie Gitto’s Downtown – definitely check it out. Great Italian food. The homemade gnocchi will knock your socks off. The place is a little rundown and for those apt to fall down staircases (maybe one day I will get up the nerve to tell you one of those stories) the bathroom being all the way upstairs doesn’t really help. But fresh, fantastic food and the wait staff is incredibly nice and welcoming.

Downtown St. Louis is pretty quiet even during the middle of a weekday. I think all the recent economic troubles are definitely noticeable with many vacant signs and a severe lack of people during business hours. Then again, maybe they are all sitting inside in front of their computers reading this blog? Hehehe, a girl can wish.

I have the pleasure of having a friend that lives in St. Louis. And it is always great to explore a city with a local. Especially when you receive the reaction out of the local of, “I never knew this was here!”

We visited Six Row Brewery. Just recently opened, you can get a taster like below.

Okay, those glasses look much bigger than they really were. They were like little jam pots. I am not kidding! Looks like the samplers were all pint size. I am totally serious. They weren’t…then again, why trust me since I am the one who drank all five (burp*). So Six Row doesn’t have much in the way of food so don’t go expecting to have a big meal and then wind up ordering two pretzels with cheese, and then hotwings at the next joint and then wind up at the Four Seasons at the end of the night eating them out of high-class chex mix. I’m just saying, not that it happened to me.

Six Row Brewing Company is down the street from St. Louis University. And so is The Library Annex. Great big place to have some drinks (and hotwings…not that I know anything about that) and play some pool.

Where was this photo during Photography 101 in college? You know the one where the professor wants a photo that portrays a sense of isolationism? Anyways, enough of that.

From The Library Annex, we headed to McGurk’s Irish Pub. Maybe they should call it McGurk’s HUGE Irish Pub because that place was like the Winchester house, just kept going on and on and on. There was great live Irish music in the front bar and music on the back patio that sounded suspiciously like someone had stolen my Ipod.

Then on to The Four Seasons for a nightcap. The Four Seasons is set right along the river and has a great view from an outdoor terrace as well as an indoor bar. They have fantastic chex mix…so I’ve heard.

Coming to the end of this post, I would like to give a shout-out to the three cab drivers that helped us get from place to place. Though next time I get in Sunny’s cab, I may want to see about bringing along some free cologne samples from Sephora. Just an idea – because Sunny’s cab does not smell like sunshine. Oh no, it doesn’t.

Signing Off, Smelling like Sunshine in San Diego,

Louie L’Amor

Seems like this photo is  missing something…

Okay, maybe this is better…

Wait! I think I’ve got it…

I would have added a cigarette but I don’t condone smoking, especially among cats.

From One Purchase To Many

Okay, we have all done it. I know I am not the only one. Confession time. You go to the store to make one little innocent purchase and walk out with half the store. Well, it happened to me today.

I went to Costco to purchase some salmon for Harlow, the family Samoyed.

And I left with these-

And this –

and these –

And this…

Yeah, so much for going for one thing. Oh and to add to it, Harlow wasn’t hungry tonight. Excuse me while I go and repeatedly pound my forehead against the wall.

Heading West, But Not In A Covered Wagon

I am heading back from St. Louis right now. And I can’t wait to get home. Hopefully the movie is good. If there is a movie. And no, I am not paying $6 for a chocolate chip cookie. And hopefully by the time I arrive home, I will figure out interesting things to talk about instead of movies on planes and $6 cookies. But probably not by much.

Catching Up on Sleep

Lynne with an E is out of town, scheming for new blog interests and entries.

So in the meantime, I am relying on a good old stand by, Coco.

Here’s hoping that we all catch up on much needed sleep.
