I don’t know about you, but I always seem to have a hard time balancing my work and play on the weekend.
There are so many chores that could be done around the house. And the weather is so nice that I should be doing more than painting inside. I am always sucking the life out of my weekends. It is part of my constant conundrum of not enough hours in the day. I am trying to accomplish all the chores that need more than 15 minutes while at the same time cramming as much fun in as possible.
I don’t really know the solution but I think I will make a list.
What is it about a list that makes me feel like life is at least partially controled? There is a certain familiarity and comfort in lists. My mother is the Goddess of Lists (among many other titles). From a very young age, I remember waking up in the morning, walking into the kitchen and seeing her sitting at the kitchen table with her coffee and her list of To-Do’s.
A list is also a partial contract. Activities, events, chores, etc. that you have promised yourself you will accomplish. There is a certain satisfaction in crossing an item off your list.
A list is a lifeline and a money saver. Have you ever taken the time to put together a grocery list and then somehow forgot to bring it along to the market? Ugh! What a mess! Trying to remember what is on the list and buying a whole bunch of stuff that wasn’t on the list. And then you arrive home and realize that you didn’t purchase the one item that was necessary in your life (toilet paper, cat food, vodka!)?
So I am hoping this weekend involves a good balance of fun and work. And I believe some of the following may be in order for this weekend’s list: mojitos, golf, hiking, bbq, grocery shopping and marathon training. I mean, I do live in Southern California!
So what are your plans for this weekend? I hope you find some balance this weekend. And then again if you decide to spend the whole weekend in your pajamas, puttering around, that’s okay too. As long as it is on the list;)
And maybe you will also have a couple of these on your list as well.
Cheers!
Lynne with an Epic To-Do List

I’m a list maker. I always thought I was a list maker b/c I try to be organized, but deep down I know that I’m a list maker just b/c I like to scratch through items! It just gives me such great pleasure! Scratch! Scratch! Scratch!
Ex: Daily list:
!. Get up. Scratch off.
2. Make coffee. Scratch off.
3. Drink coffee. Scratch off.
4. Go back to bed. Scratch off.
Now, there are all kinds of to do lists: there’s the daily list, the list of short-term projects and the list of long-term projects. And, then the big quandary for me is finding the appropriate pad, folder or journal to record the needed information. That calls for shopping! YES!!! To this day, I still haven’t figured out how to be organized b/c I’m too busy making lists and shopping. Oh, well………..
Maybe you need a list intervention? So many lists of so many things. And yet, sometimes it is great to make the list after you have accomplished the tasks, so you can immediately cross them out. Is that considered cheating? I don’t know, but it sure feels good.
